For anyone interested, here is the latest interview with Elon Musk in which he mentions some of the things he is working on. If you don't know who is, he is the guy behind Tesla (electric and automated cars) and SpaceX (cheap space flight), and he's a bit like one of these bond villains from the 70s (but hopefully without the evil intentions). He is certainly ambitious and I have a hard time believing some of his time scales, but he is certainly a visionary and he has a track record of delivering what he promises. Makes our current crop of politicians seem ***** useless.

In all fairness, you don't need Elon Musk for that.

He does have some amazing ideas, though. I am heartily relieved that at least one of my kids seems to have latched onto him as a role model.

Followed Elon Musk for quite some years now, such an amazing visionary who's actually able to prove that his "dreams" can be a reality.

I remember how he was bankrupt during the early days of Tesla and had to ask friends and family to borrow money so that the company wouldn't go under. I think if I recall correctly he managed to get enough funds together at like the last hour on the last day before he'd have to give up Tesla. Look at him now, he's revolutionising four different industries: electric cars, renewable energy, Space flight and his most recent "hobby" the "Boring company" which is looking at boring out tunnels to help alleviate traffic congestion at the surface of cities.

I like to think of him as today's Iron Man rather than a bond villan *chuckles*.

I had a good friend in school named Elon Musk. He was a pretty quiet guy. We hung out during our Junior year in highschool, playing D&D and Star Trek after school.

I remember chilling one afternoon, listening to Tesla in my backyard. I said "Hey Elo! Wouldn't it be cool to build a ecologically worthless, all electric, car heavily subsidized by the government, and travel to Mars? The only problem I have is for that kind of technology we would need something called "artificial intelligence" so advanced it would most likely kill humans off before we could even get to Mars."

He didn't say much. Just kept writing in his note book.

   Mr. Musk, heh, big dreamer for me, who reach the level, when he can bring his "dream toys" to reality. He's company doing not bad electric cars and not bad rockets, paypal works good, but i'm not sure he really did sort of revolution. For me it looks like he surrounded himself with "right" peoples and found someone or many, who believe in him. I remember how he start Tesla, i dunno, but for me it was looking like copy of Lotus car with electric engine. His rockets consists from copy parts, obtained all around the world, cars near the same (by the way, Tesla company profitable for about last 10 years as i know). Mr. Jeremy Clarkson sad nice about Tesla motors: " where's the power going to come? and how much it will cost for nature?
  For me all innovations, that Mr. Musk done was P.R., marketing and play on rialto. Anyway he's a great businessman. Don't get me wrong, i like him, just one point i don't like in him, he try to position himself as genious, but for me it's not truth; as example of really genious peoples i write Nicola Tesla or Ferdenand Porshe and many more, becouse thay was not doing copies, thay create from scratch and did real progress.
  The only secret element of the Tesla & SpaceX company are those very secret statements of Elon Musk, which then turn into trivial bullshit, even on the edge of technical progress, but without any variation, break into some other future.
