Reading the Stratics forums one would think that Siege is completely dead and there's no action.  I'm new here, but Legends didn't have a huge player base either.  Being new to the constant threat from thieves and PK'ers and having huge latency from my satelitte connection, I'm glad there isn't someone around every corner!  When you visit stratics and scroll down the forums list it is rare for a prodo shard to have 10+ people viewing it, while siege often has 20-30 individuals visiting it.  Is it just those into PK and factions that are wanting an infusion of players or is there a bigger picture here that I'm not seeing?

Vortex

It is mainly the pvp'ers that are wanting to add masses of players. I prefer quality over quantity myself, but I'm more pvm than pvp anyway.

Personally, I kinda like that I have hunting spots to myself, but it is fun knowing there is some danger involved from pk's.

As far as Stratics, keep in mind that many of the people viewing and posting don't even play Siege anymore, they are just drama whores.

Im currently over on Hybrid working up a few chars. Im gonna play some Free shards for a bit, and see how I feel. If I like them, ill put most of my time in there. Its just tough to find a community like siege has.
It may be short, but it sure is skinny

Vortex

I helped on Hybrid for a while. Was a decent shard but like most freeshards, its full of the worst scammers, speedhackers, and scum you can imagine. Some of the people on freeshards make Diablo look like a cupcake.

N49ATV

Oh Im on day 2, and I can see the scum. I think its gonna be a backup shard for me just to do some old school PvP on

I have never been completey sure of what all the doom and gloom talk is all about.  ???  I would have to agree that the population has dropped since I arrived two years ago, but there is still fun to be had. I run into a PK every so often but for the most part, I learned early on where to go to stay somewhat safe. I have also learned that some of the so called PK's are not really all that tough. If you can give them a good fight back, sometimes they just go away.
I have no clue as to how many people log into Siege on a daily basis, but it is probably more than we think. We just don't see them all as everyone is spread about the shard.
Everything is better when you are wearing purple shoes.

Again, I think its more an issue with the people who pvp exclusively. I can see their complaint as they have to see other players to have a good fight. And so many of them are afraid to go solo or 1v1.

And they dont want to have to try and kill a ninja when they have to be a detector. So stealth hurts them too.

I just wish EA would listen up and make a Classic Shard. A pub 15 shard with a few tweaks. I do like the Hybrid shard, but to me its very immature, there is clothing tagged "Fuck Trammies" etc. Kinda dumb. And everyone who bank sits has some neo stuff on. Kinda defeats the purpose of being classic. Though I do like the no item bless (well clothes can be). Kinda nice to not have a siege bless, or blessed items.

I would love a pre-Reanaissance shard that reset every 4 months.  The beginning game is where the fun is.  It kind of gets boring once your character is all the way trained and you have millions in the bank and the biggest house.   For me anyway.

Vortex

That would be a bit much. About the time you get the character playable, he would be deleted. You can always delete characters yourself if you want.

people need something to do when waiting out statloss.  :o

then theres the ROT factor...
alot of times ill go browse stratics when im between gains. (prodo would have no-one doing that)

altho , lately i dont post much . between the drama queens and the "my sword is bigger than yours" PVRers ... i typically will start a reply then think . na ... these shmuks don't deserve to know. *delete*

Vortex

Thats funny!

I do the same thing, I probably type and then delete 3 times as many posts then I actually make.

Rothen

Yeah, I do that too.  Sometimes there is a player in Gen chat you can tell is really new to Siege.  That's usually the only time I post anything, answering questions, etc..

True.

I like it when everyone is new though, not just me.

Before the web was so commonly used, many of us used to play multiplayer games on bulletin board systems (BBSs).  It was the norm for multiplayer games to be reset on a regular schedule. That way, a newbie was only a newbie until the next reset, when everyone started out on equal footing.

Maybe 6 months would be a better reset interval, for UO.

Marvin

UO has to show more flexibility in order to survive against other MMORGs. Instead of having 20+ shards, all with same setup, i support the idea to have different shard-setups...like this one. Honeycomb is right ... i also liked the game most when all was new to me ... therefore i'm adding more and more skills to my alt to regain that feeling.

I would also support the original Ilshenar idea (if technical applicable) of having one common facet accessable from multiple shards.
