Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series is very similar in both plot and series length. I would recommend it as well to those that enjoyed the Wheel of Time and haven't had a chance to read it yet.
For some reason I've always been to intimidated to start into the Wheel of Time series, but I'm a big Sword of Truth fan.  Someone mentioned Goodkind being preachy, and he definitely is to some extent, but I still found the series extremely enjoyable.

Robert Jordan is even more enjoyable to read, without any of that preachiness.  It is probably the length of the Wheel of Time series that intimidates you.  It is 12 novels so far, with two more planned, and each novel is 800+ pages.  Goodkind's Sword of Truth series is almost as long, but at least it is already finished.

It is sort of uncanny, too, how much the two series have in common.  Goodkind has the Stone of Tears, and Jordan has the Stone of Tear.  Goodkind has the Sisters of the Light, and Jordan has Aes Sedai.  I think maybe the two authors were friends and did this on purpose to raz each other.  Fans have speculated that one or the other was copying.

Thanks for the info. I still have a lot of gift cards at Borders and Barnes & Nobles to burn!

Adds to list of things to read:
-Wheel of Time Series
-Sword of Truth Series

I think the last thing I read was the Temeraire Trilogy/Series by Naomi Novik that my wife picked it up for me just because there was a dragon on the cover.  Glad she did coz I enjoyed it.  I was going to read the Chronicles of Amber next but my son was born and I haven't picked up a book since then which was 4 years ago?...he heh.

Belgarath series by David Eddings....trust me

Anyone knows the context between WOT and Excalibur ?!

I dont know WOT (sounds interesting) yet, however for those familiar with the "legend" of excalibur the following:

The excalibur story is merely a metaphor for something that happened (with truth in order to protect it from evil). The meaning of the term "excalibur" is revealed by understanding of elder german language. Excalibur - a utmost powerful weapon against evil - is not a physical weapon (s-word) as it is told but a figurative one like in "word-s". The german origin indicates that the essence is hidden by turning letters, etc. Only King Artus is able to pull the sword from the rock (unreachable for others). But the historical Arthus has less in common with that figure but his name, which is pronounces Art- u - s, a signpost meaning "use art" ! That's the hidden sense why e.g. in the hollywood film (another kind of art)  "the 5th element" with Bruce Willis the most needed weapon ingredient against evil was hidden in the belly of an artist (singer) !! Furthermore in the apocalypse of the bible you can read of an angel (rider) who beat ppl with a sword coming from its mouth (instead of its tongue) - ouch...truth never hits the teller...lies do !

The reason i am telling you this is because there may be hidden truth in stories like WOT that is not spoken out openly. Yet i m not sure about that because in that context truth in arts provokes counteraction (by its enemies) which always try to beat quality by quantity...a quote of a former harvard head would suit best here...maybe i can find and add it.

Excalibur is one of my favorite movies. :)  I love stories of King Arthur.

Robert Jordan deliberately uses elements and names from Arthurian Legend and many other legends. His premise is that the Wheel of Time turns and what was yesterday becomes confused and mottled with the passing of time until is is almost unrecognizable...  Artur Paendrag is nevertheless a pominent figure in the WOT novels.
