Besides Vortex (who has a character named Egwene alVere), who all has read Robert Jordan's fantasy novel series about the Dragon Reborn, The Wheel of Time?

I think a few aspects of UO are built on this fantasy novel series: Dreadlords, gate travel

I post on a Wheel of Time forum, and I am considering recruiting there for new UO players (to Siege, of course!)  I just wanted to make everyone here aware of my ponderings on this, so that if I do it and people come here and start talking about The Wheel of Time (which they call WOT), you all will know what I mean.

If there are enough people interested, I was even considering starting a WOT house in GIL.  Once I get a job I will be reopening my other account where I have my WOT archer Birgitte.

You are the first person to catch that.

Did you catch mine, back when I had my account active with my archer, Birgitte?

I wanted her guild title to be Silverbow, but alas her house required otherwise.... perhaps if we get a WOT house then Egwene's guild title could be Amyrlin Seat.  ;)

Troop

I will have to read this. It sounds interesting.

I don't suppose there is anything in the stories about those who wear purple?
Everything is better when you are wearing purple shoes.

There are many mages who wear purple in The Wheel of Time novels, Troop!

Only, at first at least, all the mage are female.   They call themselves Aes Sedai.

Ian James

Actually I caught both the references, I just never said anything.

I never finished the last book, I lost interest when he died in the middle of my reading it.  Not sure I want to read the Jordan by proxy novel that is supposed to complete the series either.

I am mortified to admit that my first emotion on hearing that Robert Jordan had died was anger!  I was so mad that the series was not finished, and the author was dead.  Sadness came later.

I have not been able to afford yet to buy the latest Wheet of Time book, by the successor Brandon Sanderson.  My buddies at the WOT forums at www.dragonmount.com assure me though that once you get over the slightly different voice of the new author, it does feel like you are reading WOT.

Kael

Its an awesome read  ;D

Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series is very similar in both plot and series length. I would recommend it as well to those that enjoyed the Wheel of Time and haven't had a chance to read it yet.

Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series has some very horrible daughter on father violence, and Goodkind is preachy -- not much at all like The Wheel of Time, imo.

The Wheel of Time series doesn't really take off until the 3rd book.  It is not for everyone though, of course..   And it is more than 10,000 pages long.

PS  Thanks again for permission to let her recolor your sig for Azul!  What do you think of it?  I love it!  Check your PMs Aeowyn, your GIL sig is in there!

I love long books and even more several books in a series. My three favorite authors are Mercedies Lacky/ Lary Dickson, Piers Anthony and Robin Hobb. I recently got into an author who wrights paranormal romance Katie Macalister. Shes a scream it's like Terry Pratchet meets ummm some decent vampire dragon author out there.

Glad you like your sig.
Oh and Robert Pattinson posed for a gay mens mag prior to HP and Twilight.

I have read lots of Mercedes Lackey! She got her start in Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine, and I still have those issues with her first stories in them.

I would love to see those Robert Pattinson pics!

You want the naked Harry Potter ones too?

Honeycomb

The more the merrier!

(But pm them please, so we don't hijack this WOT thread.)
