I found this snippit in a UHall post this morning.  It explains why we have been hearing rumors concerning houses decaying:

I did get a clairification.... If your account was ON when the migration was started your accounts are being held till the migration is done, so they are safe from any decay....
But if your accounts were OFF your home will decay as that timer is still running. I have seen many houses in decay mode that were not so a few days ago.... and that timer is advancing.

thanks for the information.
accounts who have been active/payed you mean? well when the account was active the last few weeks it won't fall anyway. or do you mean loged in when they had the all, even the inactive accounts can log in thing?
houses fall 90 days after they are not payed anymore. when houses fall just because the account is inactive they must have changed something. and 3 of my houses will fall just because i am still not able to pay with GTC *mumbles*
seems like they want to fix it next week. there will be a server down and after that a few things will work they think. i really hope they fix the gtc thing because on my last active account my gametime is running out.
than i wouldn't be able to play UO!!!!!!!!!!!! *allmost faints*

I think it will all be okay.  I think the folks who might be in trouble are those who have been inactive players with closed accounts who have just assumed that they could come back at any time and reactivate and have their characters and bank contents intact.  And in a way that's a shame, but on the other hand, I'm sure it costs them $$ to store all that data and eventually the question comes up of just how long they are obliged to hang onto it.  It's probably not a lot per character, but I'm sure it all adds up.
