We've all noted that sometimes some party members receive a reward at the end of a pirate hunt, but other party members don't - even if in the same party, etc.  Well, this was addressed on Stratics today and one of the devs popped in with the answer (bold and italics added by me):

If your party members are out of range when capturing a pirate they will not receive credit.

Further down, it was stated by a player that this distance appears to be "roughly the length of 1.5 orc ships - give or take a few tiles."

So basically all hands must be aboard the pirate ship to be sure of getting in range for the reward; good to know. Thanks Adrianas.

this doesnt explain why , if 4 of us are on the pirate deck doing equal damage , how come only 2 of us got credit .

we were rather confused as to why some of us got credit and others didnt when this first came out . its no different now .

when i took tyrant and kaisa pirating recently we captured about half a dozen pirates.
borg and tyrant had dragons, kaisa dropped revenants and uncle dropped colossus.
some times 3 of us got credit, some times 2 (never all 4) we were all partied and the damage was prety well balanced. different people got credit each time .
and yes we were all either on the pirate ship or right next to it dropping spells over the railing .

i tell myself there must be a random number in the equation , curse uo's random number generator (again) and carry on... but this really doesnt make sense .

could you post a link to the original stratics post please ?

thanks

Adrianas

As you will see, there is no random generator.  It depends on how close to the pirate the crew is when the pirate is captured!  So even if everyone does equal damage, if some of the crew are "out of range" when the pirate is captured, they don't get credit.

As you know, sometimes you might have someone hidden in the back of the boat, doing no damage - and they get a reward!  If that happens, then that character just happened to be 'in range' when the pirate was captured.

Also, as you know, the pirates do sometimes run all over their ship, from bow to stern - so sometimes there *is* significant distance between where the pirate is finally captures and where they started out at.

I have been on the deck next to the pirate with a GD beating him into submission and not got credit. So something is wrong.

Adrianas

Were you still close when he was tied up?  (I am presuming the answer to that is 'yes.')  And if so, then yes, something else is also wrong.  Perhaps we should test this one out some evening this week?  Get a bunch of us, and all beat on the pirate and be up close when he is tied up.  (But not Tuesday night, please!  'cause I won't be able to make it home until 9-ish.)  :)  In any event, I think being closer will result in more getting boat parts than otherwise - and that's what I'd like to test out.
