Title: OT: RL Helm I just sold!
Post by: Adrianas on August 03, 2011, 02:06:54 AM
I am a member of the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) - a bunch of crazy folks who 're-enact' (if you can call it that) medieval times.  I am a rapier authorization marshal (I can teach folks how to rl fight with rapiers), but at one point I also wanted to learn how to fight the "heavy" style - think "knights in full armor."  I carefully assembled my armor.  Paid $$ (that was spent a little at a time) for it all.  Then, I had some rl injuries (not related to being in the SCA) which sidelined me from the fighting.  I healed enough to go back to the rapier fighting, but I finally had to admit that a 'heavy fighter card' was not going to happen - at least, not if I was smart.  (I am crazy, but not dumb.)  It took me a while to decide to actually sell the armor, but a few days ago I put it up for sale.  As cool as I think my helm is, I can't see hanging onto it for "deco" - not when it's worth $600!  (But hey, how much is it worth to protect your head, right?)  Anyway.  Tonight I sold the helm!  Below is a shot of me all armored up and ready to train (I had just finished armor inspection):

And a bit of trivia - Richard Garriott, who created UO is still in the SCA and was when he created UO.  So if you've ever wondered about the armor and stuff in game, well, yes, there is a bit of backstory to it!

That helmet was crafted by Lord Willis.  ;)

Indeed!  There is no doubt in my mind that Lord Willis could do it.  It obviously has high resists, but Willis could put those "other" mods on it!
