Okay, I've been meaning to do this. My little fishing boat has 3 heavy cannon and 2 light cannon. I would *like* to make 50 rounds of ammo (50 cannonball *and* 50 grapeshot) per cannon. I would not expect to use 50-100 rounds, but it's a number which, I would hope, would ensure that I would never run out in the middle of a battle. By making both cannonballs and grapeshot, it gives the gunner options. My thought is to fill a bag for each cannon with the appropriate "stuff" needed for that specific cannon. Using Stratics info on what it takes to make the ammo, I came up with the following: (Note: this does not include the matches, swabs, and ramrods.)
To make 1 "round" Light ammo, the supplies needed are: 3 boards, 12 saltpeter, 1 ball of yarn, 2 sulphurous ash, 2 yard cloth, 12 ingots (I am leaving out the 'water' - and failures)
To make 1 "round" Heavy ammo, the supplies needed are: 6 boards, 30 saltpeter, 1 ball of yarn, 5 sulphurous ash, 3 yards cloth, 24 ingots
To make the 50 rounds for my 2 light cannons I will need: 300 boards, 1200 saltpeter, 100 balls of yarn, 200 sulphurous ash, 200 yards cloth, 1200 ingots
And to make the 50 rounds for my 3 heavy cannons I will need: 900 boards, 4500 saltpeter, 150 balls of yarn, 750 sulphurous ash, 450 yards cloth, 3600 ingots
It's a LOT, yes. But it' also "do-able" I think. Once I have this base supply, I can then replace as needed and it won't be so onerous. Since I had "done the math" so to speak, I thought I would share it here.
P.S. I also toss this out here to see what others think. I would love to see each GIL ship with this much of a stockpile, and I am willing to work toward that goal. It will just.... take a while. ;)
