So I tried enchancing a bunch of luck armor for a guildmate , each had 60+ luck, a lot of nice ones with 80+ luck on them, with spined leather. Succeeded on only 1 out of 14 items, the other 13 items were destroyed. Is that normal? Just seems such a high failure rate. Felt bad telling the guildmate that I destroyed most of his stuff (I don't craft/enchance much).
I am a 120 tailor. Did I do anything wrong? Should I wear a tailoring talisman when I enchant?
Nope, that is about the way of it, although you were probably a little unlucky with only one out of 14. Perhaps 2-3 would be the average.
There is a bit more on the Stratics calculator (http://uo.stratics.com/content/tools/enhancearmor.php).
The enhancing RNG sucks.
I once tried to enhance 20+ metal items that had 80+ luck with gold ingots and every single one broke... :(
I call it destoying. Seems that about 80% of what I try to enhance dissapears.
enhancing metal is far easier when using a +60 ASH.
Yeah, enhancing is painful, and enhancing for other people is even worse, because I feel bad about breaking the stuff :(

The more mods & the higher the mods the greater the chance for breaking. I enhance a lot of low luck stuff like you were trying. Even on that the break rate is about 75%. On better stuff it is even higher. I once had about 20 pieces that were from 90-100 luck. After enhancing I think I ended up with 2 and none of the 100's survived.
Morder is also correct. Metal items and a +60 hammer improve your odds. Of course that doesn't help on leather.
